Description

S’mores Sushi is a fun and creative twist on the classic campfire treat, transforming marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers into a sushi-inspired dessert roll. Using sweetened sushi rice as the base, this no-bake recipe layers marshmallow fluff and crushed graham crackers before rolling and slicing for a unique and delightful treat perfect for family gatherings or parties.

Ingredients

Scale

Sushi Rice Base

  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Fillings and Toppings

  • Marshmallow fluff
  • Crushed graham crackers
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the sushi rice: Prepare the sushi rice according to the package instructions, ensuring it is fully cooked and sticky enough to hold together.
  2. Season the rice: While the rice is still warm, stir in the sugar and vanilla extract to sweeten and flavor it. Then, allow the rice to cool completely to room temperature.
  3. Prepare the rolling surface: Lay a sheet of parchment paper or plastic wrap flat on your work surface to help with rolling the sushi.
  4. Shape the rice layer: Spread the cooled sushi rice evenly into a thin rectangle about 1/4-inch thick on the prepared surface.
  5. Add the marshmallow fluff: Spread a line of marshmallow fluff along the center of the rice rectangle, forming the ‘filling’.
  6. Sprinkle crushed graham crackers: Generously sprinkle crushed graham crackers over the marshmallow fluff to add texture and flavor.
  7. Roll the sushi: Using the parchment or plastic wrap to assist, carefully roll the rice tightly into a log shape, enclosing the fillings inside.
  8. Chill the roll: Place the rolled sushi in the refrigerator and chill for 15 to 20 minutes to firm up and make slicing easier.
  9. Slice into pieces: Remove the roll from the fridge and slice it into sushi-sized pieces with a damp, sharp knife to prevent sticking.
  10. Garnish and serve: Drizzle chocolate sauce over the sushi slices and sprinkle with extra crushed graham crackers and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Using a damp knife when slicing helps prevent the rice from sticking and results in cleaner slices.
  • The vanilla extract is optional but adds a lovely aroma and enhances the sweetness.
  • Chilling the roll before slicing is important for easier handling and preventing the roll from falling apart.
  • You can substitute marshmallow fluff with mini marshmallows if desired, but fluff creates a smoother filling.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed graham crackers to taste for crunch and flavor intensity.
