Ingredients
Scale
Burger Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons finely minced onion
- 1 garlic clove (minced)
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- ¼ cup Guinness beer
- ½ tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
Toppings and Assembly
- Extra oil (cooking or olive), for grilling
- 4 thick slices cheddar cheese (preferably Irish cheddar, such as Kerrygold Aged Cheddar)
- 8 slices thick-cut bacon (cooked)
- 4 English muffins (split and toasted)
Instructions
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, finely minced onion, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, Guinness beer, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Gently mix with your hands, being careful not to overwork the meat to avoid a tough texture.
- Form and Chill Patties: Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. Place them on a small sheet pan and refrigerate for 1 hour to help them set and develop flavor.
- Preheat and Prepare Grill: When ready to cook, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the cooking grates and/or the patties to prevent sticking.
- Grill the Burgers: Grill the patties to your desired level of doneness. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last one to two minutes of grilling to allow it to melt.
- Assemble the Burger: Place the cooked burgers onto the toasted English muffin halves. Top each with two slices of cooked thick-cut bacon. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Do not overwork the meat mixture to keep the burgers tender.
- Chilling the patties before grilling helps maintain their shape and improves flavor.
- Use a good quality Irish cheddar for an authentic taste.
- Cook bacon ahead of time until crisp for the best texture in the burger.
- Toast the English muffins to add a nice crunch and prevent sogginess.
- Adjust cooking times based on your preferred level of burger doneness.
