Description

This Air Fryer Chicken Hibachi recipe offers a delicious and healthy take on the classic Japanese-American hibachi style dish. Tender chicken pieces marinated in a savory blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger are air fried to perfection alongside fresh vegetables like zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, and onions. Served over fluffy cooked rice and garnished with sesame seeds and green onions, this meal is quick to prepare, flavorful, and perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Marinade

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

Vegetables

  • 2 cups zucchini, cut into half-moons
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup onion, chopped

To Serve

  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 2 tablespoons yum yum sauce or hibachi sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the bite-sized chicken pieces with soy sauce, sesame oil, olive oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Toss everything together until the chicken is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F and allow it to preheat while the chicken marinates.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Place the marinated chicken pieces in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Air fry for 12 to 14 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even browning. The chicken should turn golden and be cooked through.
  4. Cook the Vegetables: Remove the cooked chicken and set aside. Add the chopped zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, and onions to the air fryer basket. Lightly spray with oil if desired for better cooking. Air fry the vegetables for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until they are tender with slight char marks.
  5. Combine and Garnish: Mix the cooked chicken with the air-fried vegetables. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for added flavor and presentation.
  6. Serve: Serve the combined chicken and vegetables hot over cooked rice. Optionally, drizzle with yum yum sauce or hibachi sauce on the side for enhanced taste.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, drizzle a little teriyaki sauce over the chicken before serving.
  • This recipe can be made with shrimp or steak using the same air frying method.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
